Remember the Name – Coast Arcade!

Pixie Cockerill
COASTARCADE1 v2
Coast Arcade Band. Left to Right: Tom, Nate, Chris and Bella.   @coastarcade

This morning at 12 am the Aotearoa music community was gifted with Coast Arcade’s latest offerings enclosed in their debut EP; Next To Me.

A whole lot of chilled ‘Coast(ing)’ and even more energetic ‘Arcade’. All working in harmony; Bella Bavin is on guitar and vocals, Thom Boynton on drums, and brothers Chris and Nate Tims on rhythm guitar and bass, Coast Arcade is the next band to take over the Aotearoa music scene.

‘Highest Heights’ was the first single off the EP, released in February. Bella wrote this song after watching a “TikTok discussing the unique chemistry of seeing someone your age at the airport.” Those occasions when your mind drifts away with all the possible adventures you could embark on with this almost ‘mythical’, imagined person is a feeling that a lot of people can connect with. The single has a “fast, energetic base with moody undertones”. Radiating a bright, floaty, and nostalgic riff countered by a dark verse riff Bella says “this contrast gives the song a real edge!”

So, what is their vibe?

The fresh, young band describes their sound as Indie Pop Rock with twists of Surf and Punk. They exude fun, summer vibes infused with energetic and vibrant melodies. Emanating the admirable, down-to-earth, kiwi modesty, the band says that they “just love making music together!”

Coast Arcade have accumulated quite the resume since being a finalist in the 2021 SmokeFree Rockquest with their single ‘Tattoo’. The band has opened for The Beths, Princess Chelsea, The Grogans, Bootleg Rascal, and Teenage Dads as well as playing alongside Ladyhawke, Zane Lowe, Groove Armada and have been featured at 2023 Rhythm and Vines, and Auckland's Spring City Festival. It is safe to say the band is taking the world stage with a bang and they “are so excited for what’s to come!”

So be a part of the party!

Join the celebration of this up-and-coming band’s EP release! Coast Arcade is playing a headlining show at Auckland’s BigFan with special guests Fools Lagoon and Bittersweet. If you are in the Tāmaki Makaurau region on the 27th of May make sure you rocking up and rocking out at this not-to-be-missed event.
