After seven years in the hospitality industry, I have learnt three major lessons. Firstly, I am better at communicating with my customers than remembering how they want their steak done. Secondly, creating a strong connection with your team will be one of the most important things you can ever do, and finally that I couldn’t work in the hospo industry for the rest of my life. I needed to find my place.

People and storytelling have always been two core parts of my life. Discovering an industry that is completely aligned with both led me to the NZBS door and is what continues to fuel my drive to find my place within it.

I have the honour of being Creative Director for Waves 96.1, through which I have learnt valuable skills in leadership and directing a team of creative minds. This role has also developed my creative writing skills, which began with my ten-page creative stories that my poor teachers used to have to read in year five (happy to read you one if you’d like). The creative process has completely consumed me. From the brief to the finished product is a story I want to be a part of until the end.

I am also half of The Morning Mingle on-air team. This side of storytelling has also always been a part of me (I talk a lot). Working alongside Forester as we learn to play into our differences, connect with the listener, and create a show that entertains has been a fulfilling adventure.

It’s fair to say I see my place in the creative industry. Although I can’t think of a creative way to end this… maybe I’m just saving it all up for when I work for you.
